We started a Christmas Eve tradition a few years ago. Sugar cookie decorating party. My daughter loves to decorate cookies...what kid doesn't? We invite her cousins for a fun evening baking/decorating. I get all types of icing, sprinkles, candies, and colors and I let the kids go crazy. I even let the kids roll and pick their favorite cookie cutter shapes. I enjoy this time with my kids, nieces, and nephews every year--Can't wait to do it again!! Plus, Santa really loves his cookies!!!!
1 Homemade Gourmet® Super Sugar Cookie Mix
2 sticks butter
1 egg
powdered sugar
1. In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients and
stir until well blended. Place cookie dough in an
airtight container or ziptop bag and freeze for
30 minutes or refrigerate for 1 hour.
2. Prepare counter by sprinkling with 1/8 cup
powdered sugar. Cut dough in half with large
spatula, returning other half of covered dough
to the refrigerator, place first half of dough on
top of prepared surface.
3. Lightly dust rolling pin and top of dough with
powdered sugar and roll dough to 1/4 inch
thickness. Cut with cookie cutters using all or as
much dough as possible. Bake cookies for 8 to
10 minutes (shorter time with dark pans) until
bottoms are lightly browned.
4. Cool completely, *frost and decorate if desired.
If rolling out a second time, knead dough only
long enough for it to hold together, cut and
bake as before. Do not roll dough a third time, it
will get dry and tough.
Yields: 3 dozen
Cookies can be sprinkled with granulated
or decorator’s colored sugar before baking
if you do not want to frost them.
SUPER SUGAR COOKIE MIX $5.50
Total time: 15 minutes. Moist and chewy, this cookie makes a simply delicious sweet snack or
dessert. Add: butter or margarine, oil and egg. Yields: 3 dozen. #08.2000
Decorate with your favorite frosting!

September's Meal Plan
If you are a HGP club memeber and you got the bundle for the month(for September), then you want to start here....follow these tips to save more time in the kitchen! Not a member? You can still order the needed mixes and go to your 'In The Mix' e-newsletter for the full menus, grocery list, and directions. Want to have the e-newsletter sent to you the 1st of every month? Let me know and I'll add you to the list!
TIP: go ahead and prepare all the meat needed on day one. It doesn't take much longer to season all the meat then just 1 lb for only 1 meal. This is for meals: 1, 3, 4, and 6. You will cut down on dinner preparation time for the next meals
*you would need triple the ingredients needed to make meal 1--this includes, meat, ketchup, egg. So, go ahead and buy a pack of 5 1/2 lbs of ground meat.
Start off of by taking 1 lb of meat and brown it on a frying pan-do not add any seasonings to this. While thats cooking....get a large bowl and place the remainder of the meat. Place the other ingredients in the bowl plus triple the amount of the Old Fashioned Meatloaf-if using single packets, you would need 3. If using the pantry staple size, you would add 24 Tablespoons. Mix this all up. Then divide the meat mixture into 3 parts.Use one part for meal one-put in meatloaf pan and place in oven.
While that is baking, use another part and shape meatballs. Put these in the oven for the last 15-20 minutes that the meatloaf has left.
Then use the last part of the meat to shape into patties. You can then line the patties with wax paper and put into a gallon sized freezer bag. Make sure to lable as Old Fashioned hamburgers and today's date.
You now have meatloaf ready for dinner-or you can wrap it in foil paper and put in a freezer bag for later. While eating your dinner, let the meatballs cool. Then you place them in the freezer as well.
You will love having these meals almost done for you when you are short on time for dinner!! They will be your lifesavers! Have fun with this and let me know how it all goes!!
These are the Homemade Gourmet mixes you will need for the above meals:
When you choose this bundle of products to be shipped straight to your door, you will have all the Homemade Gourmet® products you need to make the 6 featured meals

Cornbread Casserole
I'm afraid I must admit I dropped the ball today! I completely forgot to take out my Chicken Enchilada Chicken out of the freezer this morning. I was a wreak at about 5:00 today when I realized it. I started to panic, but then I told myself to calm down because I have pre-made seasoned ground beef. Problem was I couldn't remember if I had any pasta noodles.
Once I got home I checked my pantry and pulled a can of diced tomatoes and beans. I then grabbed my bag of Homemade Gourmet Texas Cornbread and pulled out my Taco Seasoned ground beef. I didn't have a can of corn so I got a bag of frozen veggies. I mixed my cornbread as per the directions on the label-have I mention how yummy our cornbread is? I put my veggies in my Pampered Chef microwave bowl. Then I put the bag of meat in the microwave to defrost. I pretty much mad the Taco soup, but without the water. Then I dumped this in a 9x13 pan and then poured the cornbread over it. Placed it in the oven at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. So In 45 minutes dinner was ready! Once again, with a little planning and Homemade Gourmet I was able to get dinner on the table with very little time and effort!
Love our Taco Soup? Next time you make a batch of Taco soup and have leftovers, just drain the soup and mix it with Texas Cornbread for a great leftover casserole!
Homemade Gourmet Texas Cornbread has a light and delicate texture and is less dense than some tradition corn breads~it's the best!!

Italian Mozzarella Meatloaf
Today was one of those days that I'm so lucky to have Homemade Gourmet. I was so busy at work today and ran almost an hour late. Fortunately, I prepared a meatloaf a couple weeks ago. Yesterday I pulled my Italian Mozz Meatloaf out of the freezer to thaw. Little did I know I would be getting home almost at 7:00 today! Well, when I left work I called my husband so he could put the meatloaf in the oven. By the time I picked up Joseph and got home, it was in the oven with 10 minutes left to go. I quickly made mashed potatoes and warmed up green beans. Homemade Gourmet to the rescue again! If I hadn't prepared meals ahead of time I would have picked up dinner in a drive thru.
Why not make things easier for yourself? Homemade Gourmet has saved me time and money with our easy meal solutions. Plus as a bonus, my kids ate their meatloaf and I've got left overs for lunch this week!
The Italian Mozz Meatloaf seasoning comes in a Pantry Staple size. It's like getting 6 smaller mixes and you save $7.00 with the kit and when it's time for a refill you will save $$15.00! You also get 15 recipe cards with the kit to make other easy meals such as: Mozzarella Sticks, Parmigiana Chicken, Rigatoni and Cheese, Baked Italian Chicken nuggets and more!
Which reminds me....I need a refill!

Easy Spaghetti
For dinner one night last week we had a Spaghetti night. I got home and grabbed one of the Garlic Basil ground beef bags. I ran hot water over it. I got my spaghetti going and poured spaghetti sauce in a pan. Then I dumped the meat in the sauce. Drained the noodles and opened a bag of Ceasar salad. Dinner didn't take very long and the kids love spaghetti. I made the entire package of spaghetti so I had extra that I froze for an even faster dinner later!

Another 5lbs of Ground Beef....
I took out another 5 lbs of ground beef Monday and pulled out my Italian Mozzarella Seasoning and Taco Soup Seasoning Pantry Staples and went to work.
First I put about 1 lb of beef to brown. I did not use any seasoning for this. While that browned, I made an Italian Mozz Meatloaf. I put 1 1/2 lbs of the meat, 1 egg, 1/2 c ketchup, 8 TBS of the Iatalian Mozz seasoning, and mixed together. I put this mixture in an 8X8 Glad plan-I love these...they can go to the freezer to oven to microwave to dishwasher! I covered it with foil and wrote on it 'Italian Mozz Meatloaf'-the date and the baking directions. Then I covered it with the lid and put in the freezer.
I drained the 1lb of meat and put it all into a quart size freezer bag-labeled. Then I browned the remaining meat. I added about 5 TBS of the Taco Seasoning. I divided this into 2 freezer bags. Now I have a meatloaf that can go frozen into the oven and be ready by the time I get home. I'll only have to make quick mashed potatoes and green beans to complete this yummy meal. My kids will eat this up.
I can make beef tacos and an enchilada casserole (or a western meal casserole) with the Taco seasoned meat.
The unseasoned meat....well, its for Sloppy Joes! With 5 lbs of ground beef I have 4 meals waiting in the freezer!

Freezer Meals

Sunday is my grocery day. That's when the new sales begin. I use http://www.thegrocerygame.com/ and the Houston Chronicle(for coupons) for maximum savings.
The boneless chicken breast was on sale, so we got a large size pack. When I got home I immediately pulled out 4 of my Pantry Staples: Tortilla, Garlic Lemon, Chipotle, and Chicken Enchilada. I also grabbed my small jar of Picante sauce, oil, and a can of low sodium chicken soup. I grabbed 4 gallon sized freezer bags , labeled them, put 4 pieces in each, and went to work! Each meal calls for 3lbs of meat-or 4-6 pieces. You can even make the exact meals with steaks or pork chops.
Meal 1: Creamy Tortilla Chicken
4 TBSP Tortilla Soup seasoning
1 can low sodium chicken soup
1 can water
Seal bag and smoosh.
Meal 2: Garlic Lemon chicken
3 TBSP Garlic Lemon Seasoning
2 TBSP oil
1/4 c water
Seal and Smoosh!
I cubed the chicken before putting it into the bag. I plan on using this meat with salads for lunch.
Meal 3: Chipotle Chicken
2-3TBSP Chipotle steakhouse rub
2TBSP oil
1/4 c water
Seal and Smoosh!
Meal 4: Chicken Enchilada Chicken
3-4 TBSP chicken enchilada soup seasoning
1 small jar of pace picante sauce
half jar of water
Seal and Smoosh
This didn't take me very long. Now I added 3 meals to my freezer. I kept one out.SALES
Kroger has roast on sale. Ground beef is $.99/lb. Boneless, skinless chicken breast is on sale for $1.99/lb.
Stock up and grab your Pantry Staples and FILL your FREEZER!!

What to do with 5lbs of Ground Beef?

I had 5lbs of ground beef -that I got on special-and needed to do something with it today. Well, I took 2 lbs and put in a bowl. Then I took the remaining 3lbs and put into a large pot to cook. I sprinkled a little Garlic Basil seasoning and left it alone. Then with my 2lbs I sprinkled 4 TBS of Kansas City Rub and about 4 oz of tomato sauce to make KC Burgers. These were really great! It gave the meat just enough flavor. Jose grilled them and they were nice and juicy, not one bit dry...way to go Jose! kathryn ate her entire burger!!
By the time I finished shaping my burgers the Garlic Basil meat was done. I drained it and let it cool off while we ate. I put 2 cups of meat into 3 different quart sized freezer bags then labeled them as Garlic Basil-2c-8/8/07. Now I have quick and easy meals for a later time!! Have I mentioned how much I love Homemade Gourmet? Oh, almost forgot, I also had 2 burgers left that I froze-great for a quick lunch, just crumble on a salad with your favorite dressing.
*As you can see in the picture, these bags lay nice and flat and don't take up much space.

Family Reunion 2007
I can't wait to go back next year!!! I got so much out of it and told myself I will attend every year.

Family Reunion is always held in the Dallas area. We stayed at the Hilton Anatole. This hotel was huge!!
My Room. It was nice having this king size bed all to myself, but I must admit it was lonely without my kids and husband. At least I wasn't being pushed off the edge :)
First day of training...
This is Tami Van Hoy...she is Homemade Gourmet's founder. She started HG 10 years ago because she had a need...she needed to make $100 a month to help with her family grocery supplies. She used her Grandmother's recipes to package her favorites mixes. One day when she was renting a booth a lady approched her about selling these mixes for her....and it exploded from there!
Our top leaders share their hardships and successes of their business.
Here's the lovely group of ladies that I rode down with. I can't wait to see them grow thier business.
Here I am with my Director, Nancy Allen. She's the best.
This is the Administration building. It is located in Canton, Tx. Which was about a hour from our hotel. We loaded 6 buses and had adult beverages on the way there.
This banner was hung at Home Office. It's a great feeling to know what a kind spirited company I'm a part of. This company truly cares for it's employees and for it's distributors. There's not many companies out there that represent these values.
I'm in front of the production facility. It's right across from Home Office. It was very neat to see how are mixes are package and the assembly lines. This building is in the stages of expanding. It was funny to hear and see pictures of Tami's story how she had bags of sugar and flour stacked throughout her 1,600 sq foot house.

After touring Home Office facilities we went to a Ranch. Isn't it just beautiful! Here we got to try all the new Fall products..yum yum.
Me, Tami, Kim, and Nancy enjoying the music.

Dinner Solutions
Since I was out of town and then my son fell and needed stitches, I haven't found time to go to the grocery store! So, last night I needed something quick to make...everyone was starving and I didn't want to 'go out to eat'. I looked through my HG mixes and found 2 that I wanted to try. I pulled out our Easy Fried Rice and our Rice and Bean casserole mix. I checked the directions and saw that the Fried Rice only took 20 minutes and the casserole 1 hour to bake. I decided on the Rice. It took only minutes to get it together. Since it had to simmer for 20 mintes I decdided to go ahead and prepare the Rice and Bean casserole. I was done preparing the casserole and put it into the freezer before the Rice was done! I even had time to sit and watch the Disney Channel with Kathryn! Now I have a quick meal for this weekend. The Rice and Bean casserole did not return this season, but I'm sure glad theCreamy Italian did. I think the Burrito Skillet mix replaced the casserole. I was able to try it at Family Reunion and it's really good!
TIP:
I love the Glad freezer to oven to microwave pans!! Keep these on hand. I like the 8x8 size. They are fairly priced and are reusable! They help to have keep your freezer full. So go ahead and prepare a few casseroles at a time. You can bake them at that time then freeze to reheat when needed, or put in freezer to bake at a later time. Make sure to cover with foil paper before placing the lid on. I also taped the label on it so I'll have the directions handy.

Quote of the Day...And Time Savers
"Food is essential to Life. Make it Good!" Truett Kathy
I saw this quote today while I was sitting at Chick-fil-A. I thought, "How perfect."
Dinner today was easy again. I made my enchilada casserole. I pulled my cooked, Taco seasoned ground beef out of the freezer last night to thaw. Today when I got home I pulled a can of tomato sauce, my meat, shredded cheese, enchilada seasoning, and corn tortillas...about 5 minutes later dinner was in the oven! Warmed it up for 20 minutes. This is always a family favorite. Kathryn took one bite and said, "this is so good" Jose had seconds.
Time Saver Tip:
It doesn't take any more time to brown 5 lbs of beef then it takes to brown 1 lb. Just bag the rest in quart sized freezer bags in 1 to 2 cup portions. Then sprinkle 1-2 tablespoons of either Homemade Gourmet's Taco or Garlic Basil Seasonings in the bag.
Forgot to thaw....defrost quickly in the microwave(yes, in the freezer bag)!
Quick meals to make with your precooked meat.
Taco Seasoning:
Taco soup
tacos
enchiladas/or enchilada casseroles
Garlic Basil:
meaty spaghetti sauce
spaghetti casserole

Family Reunion
Homemade Gourmet's national conference is called Family Reunion. This will be the first time I attend one. I'm so excited!! Being our 10 year anniversary it's going to be extra special. I leave Thursday to Dallas!! Dallas is where our Home Office is located.
One of the activities I'm looking forward to is the tour of our facilities. We will get to see HMG in action. See where our fabulous mixes are made--did you know... they are still individually poured by hand into each bag. I will be taking lots of pictures to share. Another benefit will be that attendees are the first to try the new Fall products.....which will be released August 15, 2007......I can't wait to tell you more about them when I return.
I must say, I sure hope that the Creamy Italian Casserole returns this Fall. It has been a few months since I made one. Due to my lack of preparation....I needed something FAST to make tonight. I found my Creamy Italian mix, grabbed a can of chicken, milk, water and some shredded cheese(I didn't have mozzarella so I used Monterrey Jack and topped it with shredded Parmesan cheese instead...love our versatility!) mixed it all together, threw it into a casserole pan, and Presto! dinner was done. While it baked in the oven, I was able to sit and read a couple chapters of my book. I had forgotten how much I liked this casserole!!
Well, all new incentive programs, hostess rewards, and customer's specials are released at Family Reunion so I can't wait to report everything when I return!!!

The Grocery Game
One of the main reasons I love using Homemade Gourmet products is because its so economical. Especially when using the Pantry Staples(lot of bang for your buck)! So, when I learned about http://www.thegrocerygame.com/ I was immediately drawn to it. Why not save even more money by clipping a few coupons every Sunday? So when I heard I could save about 50%-75% off my groceries, I was all for it! I literally joined the other night.
This it how it works. You enter your zip code and it gives you a list of stores in your area. You pick how many store list you want to participate with. Kroger, HEB, CVS, and Walgreens are available in our area. You pay per list. You can get a 4 week trial for $1.00. Then its $10 every 8 weeks for 1 store. Every Sunday you are to get the Sunday Chronicle and clip the coupons for that week.
Sunday is the day that you go into the website to pull up your list. The list is composed of the the store's sales for that week-usually Sunday-Tuesday. It gives you a column of regular price/sale price/ which day the coupon was in/ and the final price. You simply click which product you need to buy and print it. Then you find your matching coupon and head to the store.
The Grocery Game is set up to give you maximum savings. It tells you when to use which coupon. It knows when a certain product will be at it's lowest price.
I clipped Sunday's coupons and put them into an envelope labeled 07/15/07 to make them easy to find.
Goto http://www.thegrocerygame.com/ to take a look at a sample list.
I hope to report great savings to you soon!!
I would love to hear about your savings too!

7 Reasons Why Dinnertime Should Be Family Time
by Jim Burns, Ph.D.
I’m happy to announce that over the past few years, more and more families are making the intentional effort to have regular, family-mealtimes. Here are seven reasons why doing so is a great idea:
1) Kids who live in families that eat dinner together regularly are less likely to be involved in at risk behaviors. According to the 2000 study done by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA), children who don't eat dinner with their families are 61 percent more likely to use alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs. By contrast, children who eat dinner with their families every night of the week are 20 percent less likely to drink, smoke, or use illegal drugs.
2) Families who eat dinner together regularly are more likely to have stronger, happier family relationships. As families struggle to find amounts of quantity and quality time together, family dinnertime provides the opportunity for both. When families hang out together and communicate, they grow strong and healthy.
3) Families who eat dinner regularly develop a stronger family identity. Eating together serves to build a family identity. Additionally, this family “routine” provides a sense of stability and security that provides kids with a positive environment where they can grow into healthy adults.
4) Families who eat dinner together regularly can keep in touch with each others’ lives. Everyone – kids and parents alike – can keep up-to-date during your family dinnertime on what is going on with school, jobs, family life, and friends.
5) A regular family dinnertime provides natural opportunities for planning and problem solving. Scheduling family meeting times to discuss planning, needs and problem solving can be difficult. A regular family mealtime can offer a natural solution to the challenge.
6) Eating dinner regularly fosters learning. When families who eat dinner together engage in a variety of conversation topics, learning is encouraged. Kids who are exposed to regular family discussion times learn a broader vocabulary.
7) Kids are likely to receive better nutrition when eating dinner regularly with their families. A simple, but true rule applies: when kids eat with their families, they eat better. A family dinnertime means kids are more likely to eat a nutritionally balanced meal, lower in sugar and fat content, than if they prepare or purchase meals on their own.

Dreams ARE What YOU Make of Them...
Once upon a time, an ambitious gentlewoman entered a very successful shop that had
a reputation for beautiful, fine quality merchandise. She walked right up to the owner and said,
“Sir, I am very impressed with your establishment. I would like to come on board and
build a career here. I can promise you that I will love my work, the people whom I will
work with, AND I will represent your wonderful products with total ease and complete
confidence!”…
“In return, all that I ask for is the following:
First…I would like 25% profit on everything that I sell. I would also like an extra 10% of
my sales available to me for incidentals. In fact, if I sell more than $1,000 in any given
month, I would like to be rewarded for that, too. Then… when I bring in and train any
new sales people, I feel that 2% to 8% of the royalties from everything that they sell
should come to me as well. Thirdly… when I do well, and trust me, I will! I expect lots
of praise and recognition, not to mention your wonderful products, special awards and
gifts, and, Oh yes! and …Dream vacations to exotic locations! Oh, and one more
thing! …I’m afraid that I’m not quite “IN TO” the “9 to 5” scene. I’ll want to set my own
schedule and I will only work when it best suits ME! It goes without saying, Sir, that my
family always comes first.
Okay, I think that’s about it. When can I start?!”
After the shop owner recovered from the audacity of her seemingly impossible proposal,
he roared with laughter! Once he caught his breath, he blared out, “Lady you cannot
be serious! (The gentlewoman remained firm!) …Madam, you are living in a dream world
if you think that anyone is going to give you THAT kind of job!!”
He was wrong. …While that woman was not me, it very well could have been. I found
that exact opportunity as an independent Distributor for Homemade Gourmet.
Dreams ARE what YOU make of them. This job is an answered prayer AND a dream
come true for me! Perhaps it is for YOU TOO…
If you would like to see yourself in this “dream job”…I will be honored to sponsor you
and help show YOU the way! …“Just Ask!”
